Square Enix has a game named Dragon Quest Swords in 2008, which uses the Wiimote to simulate a sword.
Well this wasn’t the first one, since The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess already comprised the same. I am not sure that was the first time its been done, but using the Wiimote as a sword has now become a convention.
